Seeking Volunteers for the Cool Tools Cafe at the AALL Annual Meeting

Cool Tools Café will be at the AALL Annual Meeting again this year.  This program will feature informal demos of tools, apps, and gadgets that will help librarians create, organize, and deliver information, increase productivity, and connect with users.  There will be demo tables scattered throughout the room and attendees can float around as they please. This year’s Cool Tools Cafe will have a new format: to improve the experience of attendees, we will have one presenter at each of our 12 tables. Each table will have a 32-inch LCD monitor and 10 chairs. Presenters will need to bring their own laptops and/or non-laptop devices, along with any adapter for establishing a VGA connection to the LCD monitors.

This year, Cool Tools Café is Monday, July 14 from 2:30pm – 3:45pm (Program D4).

Would you be willing to demo a technology? Prep time is minimal since all that is needed is a brief explanation and demo of the tool and a 1-page handout to post on the web. If you would like to help but can’t demo we could also use a couple of people to help direct attendees to various demos and answer questions.

We are looking for presenters to demo any suggested apps including:

  • Law firm technology
  • Chrome browser add-ons (CiteStack, Quick Outliner, Zotero Connector, Google Scholar Context Menu, Readium, Feedly, etc.)
  • Legal Research & Productivity Apps for mobile or tablets
  • LibGuides 2.0

This is just a suggested list; so if there is something so cool and new we don’t have it on our list let us know and we’d be happy to consider it.

Byo gadget/laptop and VGA adapter is strongly preferred, but let us know if that is not possible and we can try to find an alternative.

You can volunteer by emailing Patrick Butler: patrick.butler(at)uconn.edu with the (1) technology to be presented, (2) the law or library application, and (3) the skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) by Monday, June 16, 2014.

Thank you to those who responded to our survey.  We will be in touch with you soon.

Thanks,
Patrick Butler and Vicki Steiner
