Congratulations to KC Brown, 2022 Winner of the LIT-SIS Kenneth J. Hirsh Distinguished Service Award

Written by Jean Willis, member of the LIT-SIS Awards & Grants Committee, 2021-22

We are very pleased to announce the recipient of the 2022 Kenneth J. Hirsh Distinguished Service Award, Kincaid (KC) Brown, Director of the University of Michigan Law Library.

Kincaid has served on the CS-SIS (prior to the CS/DET-SIS merger) Executive Board as a Member-at-Large, as well as Vice Chair and Chair in 2015/2016. KC is currently Chair of the LIT-SIS Nominations Committee.  KC has been active in the CS/LIT-SIS for many years and has contributed in many ways, including serving on most of the committees either as a member or as the chair.

KC has also served as Chair of AALL’s Indexing of Periodical Literature Committee; has served as a member of AALL’s Excellence in Marketing and New Product Award Juries, and as a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee from 2017 – 2020.

KC’s other professional roles include service on many boards and committees, including currently serving on the State Bar of Michigan Michigan Bar Journal Committee where he is editor of the Libraries and Legal Research column.  He also previously served as chair of the State Bar of Michigan Libraries, Legal Research, and Legal Publications Committee.

I have had the pleasure to work with KC on CS-SIS committees over the years, so I also congratulate him on his fortitude in attending the former CS-SIS early morning Business Meetings at nearly every conference from about 2005 to 2019.  That, in itself, deserves commendation!  Hats off on this very well-deserved award!
